Category: Arrests & Jail Release
If someone you love was just arrested in Central Alabama, find out which jail is holding them first. That one fact decides which court sets the bond and how fast they get home.
It is not always obvious. Cities like Hueytown, Homewood, Gardendale, and Trussville route arrests into the Jefferson County system instead of holding people locally, and a west-county arrest goes to the Bessemer division of the 10th Judicial Circuit, not downtown Birmingham. Shelby County books into Columbiana. St. Clair County books into Pell City, where the lobby handles bonds 24 hours a day.
How long does release take after a bond is posted? Usually 5 to 6 hours. The bond can be posted any hour, but the jail still has to process the release.
