Jefferson County Warrant Roundup: Before the Next Sweep

A Jefferson County warrant roundup is a planned operation where the sheriff's office and partner agencies go looking for people with outstanding warrants. The public usually hears about it afterward, when the sheriff's office or local news posts the results. That means the warning comes too late to help.

If a warrant is already out there, you can pick the day it gets cleared. Call 205-401-8052, 24 hours a day, to set up a walk-through bond before the next one.

Key Takeaways

  • Roundups are announced after they happen. In the three Jefferson County operations we found, the results came out once the work was done.
  • They are big and they repeat. Operation Safe Summer cleared 193 outstanding warrants in 2026, and Operation Alliance Shield made 53 arrests in 2025.
  • Sweeps use traffic stops, checkpoints and visits to homes. A routine stop is often where a warrant comes back.
  • You can choose the day instead. A walk-through bond is set up before the turn-in, so the visit is planned.

Is a Jefferson County warrant roundup coming?

There is no public calendar for the next one. In every operation we found, the announcement came after it ended. Operation Alliance Shield ran on October 16, 2025, and the sheriff's office posted the results two weeks later, on October 30. Operation Safe Summer's numbers went public on July 2, 2026.

What officials have said is that more are coming. When Safe Summer's results were announced, leaders said they planned to expand their efforts into the Fourth of July weekend. The FBI, as reported by ABC 3340, plans to stay engaged in similar operations "throughout the summer and beyond."

As of October 9, 2026, we have not found a fall 2026 operation announced. We update this page after each new one.

So the useful question is a different one: is there a warrant that a sweep could find? If the answer is yes, the next roundup sets the date unless you set it first. If a warrant is already out there, call 205-401-8052 and plan the day yourself.

The record: three Jefferson County warrant sweeps, by the numbers

Here is what the sheriff's office and local news have reported for the last three named operations.

Operation Date Where Partners Arrests Warrants cleared
Westside Connection May 16, 2025 Forestdale, Adamsville, West Jefferson, Corner, County Line Birmingham police, U.S. Marshals task force 24 21, plus 15 more to obtain
Alliance Shield October 16, 2025 Northern and eastern Jefferson County Argo, Birmingham, Fultondale, Gardendale, Tarrant, Vestavia and Bessemer police, FBI 53 Not listed
Safe Summer Results July 2, 2026 Jefferson County and Birmingham Birmingham police, FBI, with ALEA, U.S. Marshals, ATF and Homeland Security Investigations 76 193

Sources: Westside Connection and Alliance Shield from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office; Operation Safe Summer from WBRC, with partner agencies from ABC 3340.

Three things stand out. The operations fell in spring, fall and summer, so there is no safe season. They covered different parts of the county, from the western communities to the north and east, so a roundup can reach any neighborhood. And the partner list keeps growing, with federal agencies working alongside local police.

The biggest number belongs to Safe Summer: 193 outstanding warrants cleared and 76 arrests, both from the same WBRC report. That is a lot of warrants closed in one operation.

What happens during a warrant sweep

A warrant sweep is a lot of ordinary police work done at once, in one place, by several agencies.

Traffic stops and checkpoints. Safe Summer reported 150 traffic stops. Alliance Shield set up 27 traffic checkpoints and wrote 207 citations. When an officer runs a name at a stop, an outstanding warrant comes back on the screen.

Visits to homes. Alliance Shield logged 12 "knock and talks," which means officers come to a door to ask questions, plus 181 community contacts. Westside Connection reported 444 community contacts.

Warrants found during other work. Warrants also turn up in operations nobody calls a roundup. In April 2026, a Jefferson County narcotics operation arrested five people, and WBRC reported that three of the five faced charges for failure to appear, the warrant that follows a missed court date.

The common thread is timing. When a sweep finds a warrant, the arrest happens on their schedule: during a shift, on the way home, with children waiting. That is the part you can still control. A call now costs nothing and keeps the timing in your hands.

Before the next roundup: clear it on your schedule

If you know or suspect a warrant is out there, for you or for someone you love, these three steps put you ahead of the next Jefferson County warrant roundup.

1. Know what is out there. Our guide on how to check for warrants walks through the official ways to look in Jefferson, Shelby and St. Clair County. A bondsman cannot search the national warrant database, which is for law enforcement only. Most people already know where a warrant would come from: a missed court date, a ticket, or an earlier arrest.

2. Set up a walk-through bond. A walk-through bond, also called a turn-in bond, is arranged before he walks in. He is booked, processed and released on a visit you planned, when the warrant allows it. Some warrants cannot be bonded, and we will tell you plainly if that is the case.

3. Pick the day. A weekday works best. Childcare is lined up, the boss knows about one day off, and the car is parked where it belongs. Our guide to turning yourself in compares this with being picked up.

The money. A walk-through bond costs what any Alabama bail bond costs: normally 10% to 15% of the bail amount, and the fee is non-refundable. Creative financing is available upon approval, at 0% interest if paid in full within 12 months. This is the one bail situation where you have time to plan the money, so use it.

If he was picked up in a warrant roundup

If the sweep reached him first, the next steps are about speed and getting the facts right.

Find out which jail. Jefferson County has two jails. The Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham has a switchboard at 205-325-5670. The Bessemer Jail sits at 1822 2nd Avenue North, 205-481-4160. Start with our Find an Inmate page, then use the Jefferson County Jail or Bessemer Jail guide to check the roster and see his bond.

Post the bond. Bail Bonds of Alabama is a Birmingham bail bond company serving Jefferson, Shelby and St. Clair County. You sign and pay from your phone, and we post the bond at the facility. You never have to drive downtown or set foot in the jail.

Expect the jail's own wait. Posting the bond is our part. After that, release at the Jefferson County Jail typically takes 5 to 6 hours. That time belongs to the jail's process, so plan the ride home around it.

If the roster says no bond. Then there is nothing to post yet. Under Aniah's Law, as expanded by the amendment voters passed on May 19, 2026, judges may deny bail for certain offenses. Call us and we will explain what the roster shows in plain words.

The moment you know where he is, call 205-401-8052.

Frequently asked questions

Does Jefferson County announce warrant roundups ahead of time?

In the operations we found, the public learned about them afterward. The sheriff's office and local news post the results, such as arrests and warrants cleared, once the operation is over.

Will they come to my house or my job during a warrant sweep?

They can. Recent Jefferson County operations included "knock and talks" at homes, community contacts, traffic stops and checkpoints. Officers look for people where they expect to find them.

Does a warrant in Alabama ever just go away?

An Alabama warrant stays active until it is cleared. Time alone does nothing to it. It waits for a traffic stop, a background check, or the next sweep.

Can he get a bond after a warrant roundup arrest?

Usually a judge sets bail, and then a bond can be posted. Some offenses can be denied bail under Aniah's Law. The jail roster shows what has been set.

How much does it cost to clear a warrant with a walk-through bond?

Normally 10% to 15% of the bail amount, non-refundable. Creative financing is available upon approval, at 0% interest if paid in full within 12 months. Call 205-401-8052 to plan it.
